Emerald City Players was created in October 1998 with assistance from the Dublin Arts Council. Our premiere performance, "Steel Magnolias," took place in March 2000 at the newly built black box theater at the Dublin Recreation Center(now called The Abbey Theater of Dublin). Our first season (2000-2001) was expanded to included three productions, culminating with the suspense thriller "Wait Until Dark," which set attendance records for our young troupe.
We again expanded in our second season (2001-2002), this time to five productions, including two dessert theaters - a new concept in central Ohio. The season was capped with our first musical, the tremendously successful "1940's Radio Hour." The show featured a full "swing" orchestra, on stage for most of the production, and was seen by nearly 1000 people during its six-day run. It was hailed by many as the equivalent of a Broadway production. We completed our fourth season with "The Fantasticks," an all-time favorite and the longest running Broadway show ever. Our '03-'04 season was upbeat and light-hearted with such favorites as Neil Simon's "Odd Couple," "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," "Stepping Out," the uproariously-funny "Dearly Departed." In October of 2004, we opened our performance of Steven Dietz's thriller "Dracula" at our own space, the Emerald City Theater....located at 6799 Dublin Center Drive, in the Dublin Village Shopping Center, just off Sawmill Road near the AMC movie theater complex. Our seasons were then changed to run from January to December and were expanded to eight productions per year including one musical. Our tenth anniversary season in 2010 will be modified to include seven productions, two of which will be musicals. |
